4 Days gorilla tracking tour takes you to the  Nyiragongo active Volcano and mountain Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park. Enjoy an adventurous expedition including hiking Mount Bisokke, visiting the remains of Dian Fossey the American researcher who settled in Volcanoes National Park and dedicated her life to researching about gorillas, conserving them and protecting them against poachers. This tour starts and ends in Kigali, Rwanda.

Virunga National Park is the oldest wildlife protected area on the African soil it was gazetted to protect and conserve the unique wildlife species therein, for science and research purposes and protecting an indigenous threatened fruit-gathering community; the Twa. The Virunga wildlife conservancy is the joint where the West African rainforests meet with Volcanoes National Park being the most popular, the East African savanna grasslands runs more than 300 km (190 mi) along the Albertine rift that splits the African continent from north to south.

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Day 1

Departing from Kigali

Departing from Kigali you will be welcomed by your expert guide who will provide knowledge and assistance throughout your safari. Your journey takes you through the beautiful terraced hills that characterise much of Rwanda’s landscape. Climbing gradually to the base of the spectacular volcanoes of the Virunga range, the five nearest peaks rising high above the verdant countryside, you arrive at the magnificent Volcanoes Virunga Lodge. Alternatively fly to the lodge via helicopter from Kanombe airport. If need be your luggage will be driven up to the lodge by your guide should it exceed the weight limit. Helicopter flights are weather dependent and will leave Kigali latest by 3:00 pm. Upon arrival at the lodge’s helipad you will be greeted by the lodge staff as your guide makes his way to the lodge by vehicle. Once you reach the lodge that afternoon you can relax, have a complimentary massage, take a walk to Lake Bulera or visit one of our community projects. Day 2

Gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcanoes

Gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcans, through the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virunga range, is a magical experience. Once you reach the gorillas, you can spend an hour with them and be back at base in time for a late lunch! Some gorilla families can be more elusive, and tracking can take a full day, especially if it is wet and muddy. O/N Virunga Lodge (B,L,D)

Day 3

Track the endangered golden monkeys.

Either go gorilla tracking again (additional permits required, upon payment of supplement, subject to availability), or choose from one of many options. There is much to explore here: Track the endangered golden monkeys. Trek to Dian Fossey’s grave and the gorilla cemetery, the final resting place of her favourite gorilla, Digit. Visit Lake Kivu, home to some of the finest inland beaches in Africa. Take a guided walk to Lake Bulera, to experience local village life. Tour the ex Imbabazi Orphanage and flower plantation; have tea or lunch with staff and volunteers to learn more about founder Ros Carr and the Orphanage history. O/N Virunga Lodge (B,L,D)

Day 4

Your safari ends with your journey to Kigali

Your safari ends with your journey to Kigali. Before transferring to the airport, there maybe time to tour the city and visit the genocide memorial, a moving testimony to this country’s past that it has courageously overcome. Return to your hotel or transfer to the airport in time for your return flight. If travelling via helicopter, transfer straight to Kigali airport. Helicopter flights are weather dependent and will leave Virunga Lodge at the latest by 3:00 pm. If need be the vehicle and driver will meet you at the airport to deliver your luggage.
